The learning buzz is back for a new school year! There are so many engaging learning activities happening at JHE every day! Routines are being established and classroom communities are built. Lincoln High School band students introduced 5th graders to instruments. 4th graders learned about orchestra.

We enjoyed seeing families at our open house yesterday. Thank you to Southern Hills church for providing food for our families. We are grateful for our community partnerships!

Don't stress about supper the night of open house! There will be a hot dog meal provided during the hours of JHE open house tomorrow, Tuesday the 25th, from 4-6 p.m. We are thankful for our community partner, Southern Hills United Methodist, for providing, preparing, and serving the food! Plan to stop by before or after visiting your child's classroom! We look forward to seeing you at open house!

When it comes to our students and your children, endings often remind us of the beginnings. We think about where we started- skills we've learned and memories we've made. Children aren't the only ones that change and grow. Adults invested in the lives of JHE students learn from them and from one another. Hurricane Heroes help make each other better! The year flew by as they always do. It was fitting to see families gathered on the playground as that is how we started the school year- with excitement and big emotions. We are grateful to be John Harris Elementary- the families, students, and staff! We wish our community a wonderful summer. We will see you in the fall!

Thanks to Mrs. Wynthein for all of the planning, prepping, and organizing that went into field day! Thanks to our parent volunteers for helping stations run successfully! The brisk/windy weather didn't slow JHE students down!

Our YEA day assembly was so much fun! Congrats to these students on their perfect attendance: Christina Ageng, Harrison Steffens, Eric Hilton, Gavin Johnson, and Gwen Lewis. These teachers accepted field day champion trophies on behalf of their winning classrooms: Mrs. Costello, Mrs. DeLamontanya, Ms. Saylor, Mr. Van Briesen, Mrs. Childress, and Ms. Mayer. Mrs. Hohweiler's class received the most HERO slips at over 11,000! Students cheered on staff teams as they participated in a relay race!

Last week Outdoor Campus visited 4th grade!

On Monday, counselors from Patrick Henry and Ben Reifel Middle Schools visited 5th graders to start preparing them for middle school. On Tuesday, students visited their middle schools. Students were given tours by 8th grade Web Leaders who answered questions and shared the important information 5th graders need to know about middle school.

We're going to miss this crew of kids!

If your student is missing any belongings—such as sweatshirts, jackets, pants, water bottles, hat, gloves, etc.—we encourage you to stop by and check out the lost and found before the end of the day on Wed., May 20th. The lost and found tables are located in the main door vestibule for easy access. Check out the photos for a preview!

Any items not claimed after the last day of school will be donated.

Thanks to the John Harris PTO for recognizing the hard work and dedication of staff. The fun summer gift was much appreciated at the close Teacher Appreciation Week last week!

Last Friday, friends and family of former JHE student, Davis Nordquist, attended the re-dedication of a new tree planted in his memory. Kindergarten students attended and learned about the positive values that Davis exemplified. We are proud to honor Davis in our "drop off circle" area. The tree will grow with our students and remind us of the powerful impact we can have on our community.
